History of Tim's Pumpkin Patch

| Farming has always been a way of life for Tim Leubner. Growing up and working on the family farm in Marietta, NY taught him everything he needed to know about life and how to run a business. When he was just 15, he decided to grow some pumpkins, he planted 200 seeds. He planted them in an inconspicuous spot, on a big pile of dirt near an old dump. When they all grew, he wasn’t quite sure what to do with them. His father suggested that he put the price tag of $1.00 on each pumpkin, a price no one could refuse. Every last pumpkin sold. Each year after that one particular October, through word of mouth only, more and more people were venturing to find this place that sold “$1.00 pumpkins” and each year Tim planted more pumpkins. Eventually, the word really got out about “Tim’s Pumpkin Patch” and he had to move the business to its current location on Rose Hill Rd. for more space. Tim realized that people were hungry for the atmosphere of a farm in the country. So he developed different ways that people could stay longer beyond picking their pumpkins. First he added an animal barn, then a Corn Maze, Hay Fort, Hay Maze, Horse Drawn Wagon Rides, and a Concession Stand. Now in its twentieth year, Tim continues to add new and different features to the pumpkin patch where visitors can enjoy an environment like no other. The price of pumpkins had been $1.00 for 20 years but because of the rising cost of farming, the price changed to $2.00 in 2006. |
